2-9 April 2019 Dragon of the Week review: the Avocado Dragon

Hello Dragon Ladies and Lords! Although current Dragon of the Week is still Sweet Treat, Gameloft has already revealed Dragon of the Week for the next week: the Avocado Dragon! This text will provide you with information about Avocado's history, breeding, potential usage as a battle dragon, parent, in temple upgrading and gold generation. So, let's start!

Avocado's history

Avocado Dragon has been originally designed by Poci16 as DML fanart and posted on DeviantArt here. As Poci16 came up with Avocado's idea, it was a legendary dragon with light and plant elements. A few days ago, Gameloft announced Avocado as incoming Dragon of the Week, a rare dragon with plant and earth elements. Some people couldn't believe it and kept asking if it's an April Fools' Day prank, but it is officially confirmed that Avocado is coming to Dragonlandia tomorrow as Dragon of the Week! Adult and baby form of Avocado Dragon will be the same as on original drawing, however, the egg will look different. For more amazing art of Poci16, you can check her DeviantArt profile or Facebook fanpage

Breeding

You have a chance of obtaining Avocado when you breed Minotaur Dragon with Leaf Dragon. There's nothing much to say here, you probably already have both needed parents. Breeding Avocado will take 12 hours (9 h 36 min), while hatching will take 16 h 50 min (13 h 28 min). Other possible outcomes when breeding Minotaur with Leaf are:
  • Dust Dragon: 2 h 00 min (1 h 36 min) breeding, 3 h 20 min (2 h 40 min) hatching
  • Tree Dragon: 6 h 00 min (4 h 48 min) breeding, 8 h 30 min (6 h 48 min) hatching
  • Tornado Dragon: 6 h 00 min (4 h 48 min) breeding, 8 h 30 min (6 h 48 min) hatching
  • Venom Dragon: 8 h 00 min (6 h 24 min) breeding, 9 h 40 min (7 h 44 min) hatching
  • Razor Dragon: 8 h 00 min (6 h 24 min) breeding, 11 h 20 min (9 h 04 min) hatching
  • Cyborg Dragon: 10 h 00 min (8 h 00 min) breeding, 12 h 00 min (9 h 36 min) hatching
  • Black Armor Dragon: 16 h 00 min (12 h 48 min) breeding, 23 h 30 min (18 h 48 min) hatching
(Times in brackets refer to 2+ level VIP members)

No outcome but Avocado is rare there, and only Black Armor is epic, so there's no much to get while trying on Avocado, but on the other hand, getting Avocado should be pretty easy. Both Leaf and Minotaur can be recommended dragons to explore Wildlife Marsh and Minotaur can also be a recommended dragon to explore Skull Gate, so leveling up parents for Avocado isn't bad idea.

Avocado compared to other dragons

The only dragon that is normally breedable and shares element set with Avocado is Tree Dragon. Other plant - earth dragons are: Faun, whom you get as day 7 log-in bonus, and Farmer, whom you get for recruiting 12 players.

There are also 36 tri-elemental dragons that have both plant and earth elements. 16 of them are limited-time (this number includes two legendaries: Stache and Root, and the divine Pangu). 4 of them are normally breedable (Orange, Emerald, Swamp, Shaman), Palladin is available through card packs, Gorilla is available through enchanted breeding and 4 of them (Kitsune, Mountain, Armadillo and Celestial) are prizes for various game parts.

Being rare, bi-elemental dragon, who shares his element with such a big number of other dragons, Avocado doesn't provide you with any special utility. Base 340 gold/hour (which means 1204 gold/hour at level 10) isn't really much, and plant as best habitat that dragon can live in isn't great as well.

Paladin Dragon Base Stats - Codex Entry.jpgAs a battle dragon, bi-elemental dragons are only recommended for beginner players. Having plant as base element is slightly better than having earth as base element, so Avocado could work a little bit better for a beginner player than Tree. However, as a rare dragon, he would require much more enchantment elements, so it's not a good idea - you should pick another bi-elemental. If you are advanced player, and you need to cover earth and plant elements for element-restricted battles in castle events, while you aren't lucky to have neither Pangu, nor Stache, nor Root, Palladin seems best choice for you, being just one rarity tier above Avocado and having additional three element strengths. Shaman and Gorilla are also some options.

If you need just earth and plant elements for a certain breeding, Tree is the best option. Tree Dragon may be recommended dragon to explore Mystic Cave and Ancient Palace, so you will probably level him up above average level of your dragons anyhow. Also, as normally breedable dragon, he may be a parent for Dragon of the Week one day, so feeding him to increase the chance of rarer offspring is better idea than feeding Avocado. And if for any reason you don't want to use Tree Dragon for breeding, Faun Dragon is also better idea than Avocado Dragon, because as an epic, he will generate more gold at the same level.

If you need to level up a dragon with earth and plant elements to upgrade your temples, Tree is better option for reasons mentioned above. Picking a tri-elemental dragon with another element that you need for upgrading temples is also much better option, especially that there is such a big choice. If you need only those two elements, feed either Tree, or Shaman (or Gorilla), who can live in shadow habitat and will produce much more gold for you.

Cute fruits

Well, Avocado Dragon will not play any important role in your Dragonlandia... but who cares about usefulness, when it comes to such a pretty, cute dragon? I'm totally in love with the Avocado Dragon and I will definitely try to get at least two Avocados, to have one adult and one baby living among my other fruit dragons: Oranges, Melons, Pineapple and Banana. In my opinion, fruit dragons are so much lovely, and I'm very happy that Gameloft has released another one. By the way, did you know that there is also the Blackberry Dragon? It's been designed by Gameloft, however it has not yet made an appearance in the game. I can't wait for its official release.

Conclusion

Taking into consideration all the rational premises, I ought to say now, that the decision whether you should try to breed Avocado Dragon or not is up to you... But I can't imagine anyone, who wouldn't try to get this sweety. Just beware of the gourmands in your environment! The Silent Grey Eminence has already promised me not to ever eat any of my dragons, but you can never know who watches your fruit dragons!
The Avocado Dragon will not help you much in progressing the game, but will not be a problem to obtain either, so his extreme prettiness wins with his not-the-best elements and rarity. I'd rather have Avocado as the dragon that Poci16 originally designed: legendary with plant and light elements. I still love him as a rare dragon anyhow. The fact that fan-made dragon is officially coming to Dragonlandia is also a big thing and another reason to love Avocado.

Please tell me in comments what do you think about this dragon. Have a wonderful day in your Dragonlandia!
